PREVOST CAR CELEBRATES ITS 75th ANNIVERSARY.

The mid-years (1957-1967)

In 1957, the company was taken over by the Normand, family of industrialists, and resumed bus manufacturing under the name Prevost Car Inc. The Normand invested quite heavily in market research and technical development and soon their strategy began to pay off. André Normand, who joined as chief financial officer (and soon became president) would divide his time between the "books" and the plant. Obsolescence and people motivation were André Normand's fad. When he stepped on board, the ship was in a terrible storm. He brought it back on course by making it imperative to use only the best that the industrial complex had to offer in material, tooling, technology and employee relations.

His first market entry was the 1957 LeNormand, a silverside highway coach with diesel engine and air ride.

Added to the product line in 1961, the Travelair was a small 25-foot gas or diesel-powered coach that served as airporter and on short intercity routes.

Then came the 40-foot Panoramique intercity parlor coach with expansive sidewindows and improved air ride.

The first Panoramique intercity coach was sold to Greygoose of Winnipeg (Laidlaw) in 1962. Production also included a city version. Several were built for BC Hydro and for urban transit authorities between 1962 and 1972
